Abstract
Uncertainty analysis of numerical simulation results is necessary in ship hydrodynamics as well as in ship roll damping prediction. In this study, roll motion of ship DTMB 5512 is simulated by numerical method with initial roll angle 100 at speed Fn = 0.28 and extinction coefficients are calculated for different cases when base size and time step are changed. Reliability of the results are verified by verification and validation procedure with two input parameters, which are grid size and time step. An improvement in meshing and an remarkable simulating case with high accuracy show the importance of uncertainty analysis in predicting ship roll motion.
