Abstract
Digital technologies such as Big Data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain, when applied in conjunction with the increasing prevalence of digitization and automation, are posing certain challenges to modern ports. The potential stemming from the application of these technologies has been evident in enhancing port operation efficiency, while labor productivity has also been improved through the restructuring of workflows. The subsequent sections of the article will discuss related trends and the development of seaports in the digital era, along with their impact on new skill requirements for workers. This development aligns with the stages of port evolution, namely digitization and automation, as well as the cultivation of new hard and soft skills in port operations, which are said to be shaped by technology-driven trends.
