Abstract

Currently, there are two basic types of sea dyke structures: The vertical wall-typed dikes that work according to the principle of pile foundations and the sloping dikes that work according to the principle of gravity foundations. The vertical wall-typed dikes are complex in structure and construction, high in construction costs, and rarely used. There are two types of sloping dikes: earth dikes and rock dikes, in which, the earth dikes have dike body is filled up with earth and then a suitable protective layer is used, so the construction cost of earth dikes are low and this type is used commonly in Vietnam. However, scientists often focus on studying the completion of the protective structure of the dike roof but do not pay enough attention to ensuring the construction quality of the dyke body, settlement of the dyke ground. There are the cause of incidents in construction and exploitation of sea dykes. The paper proposes a new structural technology (hollow structural technology), in which, the sea dike is built with a step cross section that works both according to the principle of pile foundation and according to the principle of gravity foundation. This allows to overcome the problems of sloping dikes in Vietnam.
