Abstract

Load frequency control is a requirement for reliable operation of large power systems with area connections. The main task of load frequency control is to control the power of the generator for a specific area with frequency changes, link power to maintain system frequency and exchange power with other areas within specified limits. This article studies the load frequency control system for a power system linking two areas with a non-recovery steam turbine generator complex. The fuzzy controller is designed to control frequency deviation and active power at the link node. The proposed fuzzy controller works stably under different load conditions with wide variation. The response of the frequency and link power between the two areas when using a fuzzy controller and a traditional PID controller are compared, based on the assessment of overshoot, number of oscillations, deviations, transition time. The load frequency fuzzy controller operates faster and more sustainably than the traditional PID controller when the load changes over a wide range.
