Abstract

Long-span bridge decks are very sensitive to the effects of wind. One of the methods to increase the critical wind speed is to install flaps to create additional aerodynamic forces. This paper presents the calculation of the critical flutter wind of a bridge deck section model with flaps fixed to the hanger by using Revised Step-by-Step method. The Logarithmic resistance and flutter frequency are investigated over the entire wind speed range. The calculation results in the paper are the fundamental for further studies on improving the installation of aerodynamic control method.
