Abstract
Ship and offshore structures always consist of several uncertain factors that influence significantly on the hull girder ultimate strength such as corrosion, deformations, residual stresses, fatigue cracks, and dents, etc… The assessment of the above-mentioned factors on the hull girder ultimate strength is an essential demand because of the correlation in life of crews, loss of ship structures, loss of cargo, and ocean environmental pollution. This paper will propose several solutions based on a method of ultimate bending moment determination suggested by Paik and Mansour (1995), to evaluate the effect of initial deformations, residual stresses, and general corrosion on the hull girder ultimate strength.
