Abstract

Among imperfections of ship structures and mobile offshore structures such as initial imperfections, residual stresses, corrosion, cracks, and dents, etc… corrosion is the most popular one. The corrosion is multiform, including pitting corrosion, general corrosion, grooving corrosion, crevice corrosion, galvanic corrosion, erosion-corrosion, cavitation, stress corrosion, and fatigue corrosion, and corrosion appearance is mostly in several locations inside of the ship hull which is depended on ship types. The influences of corrosion on the structures, on the local strength, the fatigue strength, hull girder strength, and other aspects have been mentioned in the publications of the variety of groups of authors and groups of researchers. The corrosion determination of type, rate, location, and magnitude has great meaning in the influence assessment of the corrosion on the ship structures and problems such as structure strength, hull girder strength, structure reliability, and risk assessment of ship. This article will summarize and analyze all of the corrosion models to determine the corrosion in ship structures and mobile offshore structures as the basis for the above-mentioned studies and problems.
