Abstract

Engine - propeller matching is an important work, a right chosen propeller RPM will give high efficiency of engine and propeller, otherwise, may cause some problems for engine, propeller and shaft devices. The propeller rotation is limited to the range of the rotational speed of the diesel engine, depending on the quality of the combustion in the diesel engine combustion chamber in the low revolution range and the torque limit of shaft or hydrodynamic efficiency of propeller in the higher RPM range. This article instroduces the selecting suitable, efficient and safe speed range of propeller shaft in design and operation of marine diesel propulsion.
