Abstract
The industrial revolution 4.0 has a strong influence over different sectors, including manufactures, retails, distribution, transportation and logistics. As an important node of global supply chain, seaports need to be adapted with the application of new technologies to enhance their competitiveness. The term smart port was introduced and got increasing attention over recent decades. However, there is not yet a common definition and concepts of smart port all over the world. Therefore, this study aims to synthesize the general knowledge and understandings of smart ports worldwide. We then study and evaluate the case of Port of Hamburg to learn lessons in developing smart ports globally.
